About the Book
According to data from the Ministry of National Education for the 2017–2018 academic year, there are approximately five million elementary school students in Türkiye. A total of 297,176 classroom teachers are working to provide education and instruction to this group of students. Facing this group of teachers are five million unique individuals, all of whom are waiting for their teachers’ support to achieve effective learning. Given the existing formal education structure, it does not appear feasible for teachers to organize individualized learning activities in the classroom that are tailored to each student’s specific qualities while also addressing their interests, needs, and expectations. Here, the concept of differentiated instruction—which has been frequently emphasized in recent years—comes into play. The creative and innovative practices developed by teachers within the classroom are gaining value, and this value will increase when these practices are shared with other teachers, teacher candidates, and faculty members. With this in mind, the workshop activities designed aim to establish collaboration among faculty members, teacher candidates, and teachers, thereby eliminating the existing disconnect between theory and practice and providing teachers with the opportunity to introduce their new and creative practices to their colleagues, faculty members, and teacher candidates. This book features 20 original activities developed by teachers for workshops in Turkish, life skills, social studies, mathematics, science, visual arts, and music. It also includes the content of seminars designed for teachers and prospective teachers on topics such as developing empathy skills, communicating with parents, identifying talents, and the STEM approach.
